The following items can be emailed to info@mnbarnvenues.com for review. These are Local and State required items and is public data obtained at your local City or County. If you are looking to book a wedding at a venue, these are things the owners should have on file and should supply you upon request with no confrontation. If not, run away from them because something is most certainly wrong.
BARN VENUE or WEDDING VENUE OWNERS REQUIREMENTS:
1. Obtain local area Conditional Use Permit (CUP) from City or County. (Local Requirement)
2. Hire a MN State Licensed Architect and Engineer to draw and approve current or new structure with code analysis. The occupancy must be A-2 for weddings with food and alcohol. It cannot be A-3 Occupancy for churches as the ceremony is only ~20 minutes and the drinking is 6 hours. (State Requirement)
3. Hire a Licensed and Bonded - Commercial Contractor with electrical plans and plumbing plans approved by the State and fire / safety plans submitted to the department of public safety with stamped approval. (Highly Recommended)
4. Submit plans to City/County/Department of Labor & Industry for review, approval and permit. (Local or State Requirement)
5. Build project to MN Building and Fire Codes (MBFC) as per State Law. (State Requirement)
6. Obtain a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) for A-2 and fire sprinkler for 100+ occupants signed by the local Building Official (BO) and Fire Marshal. (Local Requirement)
If the venue owner cannot provide the above documentation, the venue is not safe and has life threatening safety violations as per MN State Law and Building Codes.
